A message from TMRA President Steve W8TER:
Due to the imminent winter storm approaching and the uncertainty of the weather forecasts, I am cancelling Toledo Mobile Radio’s version of the Winter Field Day event.
I encourage all to take time and precautions to prepare yourself for the worst Winter Weather Situation.
This storm is for real !!!
Family always first.
FOOD and FUEL:
- Make sure you have food supply that does not require refrigeration.
- Top off your car’s fuel. Get extra fuel for your generator.
- Heavy snow can bring down power lines. Check your outside antennas to ensure they won’t be affected if a power line does come down.
- Shoveling snow can be detrimental if you are not in good physical shape. Ask or call for help.
- If you are in shape check and see if your neighbor needs help. Don’t overdo!!! Hard work in cold temperatures is an unnecessary activity.
- Take warming breaks if you spend time outside.Make sure you wear layers of clothing (at least three to four layers) and cover your face with a scarf to help avoid frostbite.
RADIO STUFF:
- I encourage stations to monitor their local repeater(s) and if able and listen on 146.520, the 2 Meter FM calling frequency. Make a contact and move to another simplex frequency to hold conversations. Don’t tie up the “FM simplex calling frequency”.
- Allow extra time… (Count to 3) between transmissions so stations may check-in.
- Make sure your backup batteries and Handie Talkie batteries are charged and rotate them out to ensure they stay topped off.
- A frequency list is included below for your reference.
73, Steve, W8TER
